Is AI Working For You—or Against You?

Google’s AI Overviews are quickly becoming the face of search results. Ask a question, and the first answer you see is often AI-generated—not a website, not a brand, not a human.

And here’s the tricky part: AI doesn’t always get it right.

Sometimes it pulls outdated information. Sometimes it oversimplifies. Sometimes it flat-out misrepresents what a business does. For brands, that can mean confusion, missed opportunities, or worse—being defined by something you didn’t actually say.

That’s why having a response strategy matters. Here are five ways to proactively increase your AI presence and help ensure you’re represented accurately and on-brand.

1. Audit your AI footprint

Regularly search branded and category-related queries and note how AI Overviews describe your business. Treat this like reputation monitoring—not keyword tracking.

2. Clarify facts everywhere

Publish clear, explicit statements on your website (FAQs, About pages, explainers) that define exactly what you do—and what you don’t. Ambiguity is AI bait.

3. Strengthen authoritative signals

Use structured data, expert bylines, original insights, and credible citations. AI Overviews tend to favor content that looks definitive and trustworthy.

4. Monitor third-party narratives

Check how forums, reviews, and comparison sites talk about your brand. AI often pulls from these sources, even when businesses overlook them.

5. Optimize for summaries, not just clicks

Write content assuming it may be excerpted or paraphrased by AI. Clarity beats cleverness when machines are doing the summarizing.

AI is already talking about your brand. The question is whether it’s saying the right things.
